London’s Victoria and Albert Museum today confirmed an unprecedented innovative and multisensory journey through Pink Floyd’s extraordinary world, as they play host to ‘The Pink Floyd Exhibition – Their Mortal Remains‘. Nearly 50 years since the band released their first single, and over 200 million record sales later, the V&A will present an immersive and theatrical showcase to Pink Floyd who captured the public’s imagination with their psychedelia and surrealism, flying pigs and social commentary, becoming one of the most successful bands of all time. The Exhibition has been produced with the collaboration of the group
This major international retrospective, curated by the V&A with Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell of Hipgnosis and Paula Stainton, and designed by Stufish, will celebrate Pink Floyd’s place in history as the cultural landscape changed throughout the 1960s and beyond. Pink Floyd were the foremost exponents of a psychedelic movement that changed the understanding of music forever. They became one of the most important groups in contemporary music. Pink Floyd’s impressive and enduring body of work will be showcased at the V&A, the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. The group’s vision produced some of the most iconic imagery in popular music history: pigs flying over Battersea Power Station, The Dark Side of the Moon prism, cows, marching hammers, giant inflatable teachers, beds on beaches, a vision brought to life by creative individuals such as modern surrealist and long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson, satirical illustrator Gerald Scarfe and psychedelic lighting pioneer Peter Wynne-Wilson.
‘The Pink Floyd Exhibition – Their Mortal Remains’, with sound experience by Sennheiser, will explore Pink Floyd’s creative direction and will feature spectacular set and construction pieces from some of their most innovative and legendary album covers and stage performances, including The Dark Side Of The Moon, The Wall and The Division Bell. It will also feature hundreds of objects and artefacts, some never before seen, presented alongside material from the V&A’s collection of art, design and performance. ‘The Pink Floyd Exhibition – Their Mortal Remains’ opens 13 May 2017 for 20 weeks.
